Let’s call 2015 the year of “relationship goals”. Celebrity couples and memes were the model for couples striving for “bae” perfection.
This is great and all, but my relationship goals come in the form of movie scripts. Yes, I am in tune with reality, knowing I’ll fall in love when..when..hell I don’t know, I’ll fall in love whenever it happens. While I’m not rushing the process, some movies still make me want to fall in love the Hollywood way. Check out 11 of my favorite love scenes that absolutely make my heart melt.
11. The Carnival in “Poetic Justice”
Lucky and Justice both let down their guards after several distractions and profane misunderstandings. Not every man will trust a woman with his emotions, especially not initially. Within 24 hours the tied turned.
10. The Reunion in “Mahogany”
I just like this scene because Billy Dee Williams is fine and Diana Ross is absolutely breathtaking. The entire movie, made me realize “success is nothing without someone you love to share it with.” Like any goal driven woman, it took Tracy a while to realize there is a man worth the distraction.
9. The Braids in “Creed”
He cared for her hair, as he did her body; in a gentle way.
8. The Thanksgiving Kiss in “Boomerang”
Despite how head over heels you become, the person on the receiving end of your affection may always see you as just a friend. It be that way sometimes. And that is exactly how Marcus saw Angela. Even she was blindsided by this surprise romance. Once everyone had departed from the Thanksgiving dinner, it took one magical moment for Marcus to realize imperfect love was right in his face. He just couldn’t see it because Angela was just too plain for his liking. In the end, and after much distress, he got the girl.
“Boomerang” is a soft reminder that love will bring his ass home.
7. The Final Score “Love & Basketball”
“All is fair in love and basketball.” This film is filled with memorable one-liners. When Monica and Quincy enter the court for a final game, there is a small part of you knowing their romance has reached the end of the line. “I’ll play you for it…Your heart.” Monica had ran out of passes in the game of love. When she lost their final one-on-one taking a huge gulp of her pride ready to walk away from the court, Quincy’s passionate request for a rematch proved you should never walk away even if the odds don’t appear to be in your favor.
Never give up on love. “Chances are there’s still a chance.”
6. The Rain in “The Notebook”
Any man who can make you argue in the rain, while your hair slowly becomes the first casualty, is worth keeping.
5. The Wedding in “Coming to America”
A man who will break the bank for your dream wedding.
4. Long Gazes in “The Way We Were”
I know this is fiction, but seriously Katie and Hubbell gazed at each other with great desire and intent.
I want someone to look at me like that.
3. The Silent Approval in “Beyond the Lights”
Kaz falls hard for Noni, but not for the reasons as everyone else. He immediately saw her under all the makeup, hair and glam, Kaz loved Noni “beyond the lights”. In the scene where Noni broke free from her extensions, we see new strength that came in the form of her natural curls. Without saying a word about her hair, Kaz fell in love again, embracing the natural beauty he first loved her for. As I learn to embrace my own natural hair, this beautiful moment made me realize the only man who I should give my affection to is the one who is appreciative of every inch of me..kink and all.
If you can’t love my shrinkage, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me with my sew-in.
2. “Baby Please” in “A Different World”
I know this is a list of films, but you can’t talk fictional love without putting Dwayne and Whtiley in the conversation. No one wants to be trapped between two lovers. But, every woman wants a Dwayne Wayne to fight for her.
I Will.
1. The Lift in “Dirty Dancing”
The man of my dreams will be the only one who can pull off this iconic move. Granted, Jennifer Grey appeared to be light as a feather as she leaped into Patrick Swayze’s bulging arms, solidifying the moment the two worked so hard to achieve.
Future husband, if you are reading this, I am no petite girl. I pray you can carry the load.
Until my Prince Charming arrives in 2016 (I’m claiming it), I’ll be hanging out on the sidelines.
I don’t have the words to describe how hard I just laughed!
