I’ve branded myself as a freelance writer and producer in the last 9 months of my journey as an entrepreneur.

Exclusive image of me most days.

No warning or nothing, Jesus. I am evolving into a businessperson, using my mistakes as a learning tool. While my lifestyle comes with freedom and flexibility, there is also a sharp learning curve. Once you’ve reached a certain level of independence, you quickly realize that the work cannot be done alone.

You must assemble a team.

That’s why I created #GirlsWriteIn, a space for women writers and digital creatives to rely on each other as resources of knowledge and empowerment. No matter your field of expertise, it is our duty to pull each other up. What my sister doesn’t know, I am happy to help where I can.

The event returns to Charlotte on April 9th and this time around, I decided to channel the vibes of Beyoncé. #GirlsWriteIn: BeYourOwnYoncé is about the evolution of today’s working woman. It’s 2016 and we’re no longer sitting around waiting for the permission of others to rock out in our respective industries. Just like Bey, more women are rebranding themselves, becoming well respected powerhouses each and everyday. You don’t have to be a writer to attend, just open-minded about girl power.

I want to introduce you to my facilitators just to give you an idea of their expertise and why this conversation is so necessary. The event is comprised of four components using themes from Bey’s music.

Me, Myself & I: Crafting a Personal Mission Statement with Brittany McNeill

brittany

Creator. Connector. Cultivator. Brittany has a passion for sharing lessons learned in her life in hopes they’ll aide in the growth and development of others. She loves seeing people evolve and hopes to create a safe space, particularly for women, to see the value in sharing their journeys with another. She is an experienced community health leader with a focus on changing behaviors through a holistic (mind, body, and spirit) approach. She is an agent for change. Brittany currently works for Carolinas HealthCare System in the Corporate Community Benefit department where she is responsible for developing a Childhood Obesity Prevention Program in North and South Carolina. In this role, she is responsible for building and leading community coalitions, and personally consults with individuals on personal development as she chairs the Development Committee for her division. She sits on various non-profit boards and is an active member in organizations that address social justice issues such as upward mobility as this has an effect on individuals’ health outcomes.

Her interest in tackling these issues came from her living in Detroit, MI and experiencing them firsthand. Upon her arrival to North Carolina, Brittany began teaching Intro To Epidemiology at Wake Forest University, with a focus on social marketing, community engagement and establishing linkages between community and decision makers.

Formation: Building Successful Partnerships with #thesavageway

torriepaula

#thesavageway is a non-traditional creative agency based in Charlotte, NC that focuses on Clean Graffiti, Moss Art, consulting and positive influence.

Founder, Torrie Savage, has an extensive background in marketing and media buying for several large companies in the Charlotte area. However, after about 8 years, she decided to leave that corporate world to begin a journey toward a more positive and impactful existence. One fateful day, Torrie met Paula Bartlett. Paula was a hardworking event planner and organizational communicator who was looking to make a similar jump into something new and different. The two joined forces and launched #thesavageway.

That was in 2012. Three and a half years later, #thesavageway continues to grow and evolve. Services include Clean Graffiti (a clean message on a dirty sidewalk), Moss Art (pop art that brings an outdoor element indoors) and a small amount of creative marketing for clients. Their team consists of 4 sales reps (2 focused on the South East and 2 focused on New York) and a team of interns. Torrie & Paula have carved their own path and found a way to do work that is innovative and impactful.
